About this pro

I have a BA in Music Education from Michigan State University, and experience teaching private and public school music lessons for over 10 years.  I taught elementary band and orchestra for Arlington Public Schools in Arlington, VA for 6 years.  I have taught private lessons on French horn, trumpet, euphonium, guitar and piano.  I have extensive experience performing on the french horn, mostly for local and professional brass ensembles and for church and community events.  Most of my years of study took place with Rob Craven, hornist in the United State Army Band, and Edwin Thayer, former principal hornist of the National Symphony.  All of my students have been in top ensembles, and continue to enjoy playing today! I'd be happy to provide references upon requst.  Please contact me to start your lessons today!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I endeavor to create a professional and comfortable learning environment, where both student and parent can be present and involved in the process.  I aim to help each student develop a love for music and an intrinsic desire to practice so they can advance quickly and experience success.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

BA in Music Education

10+ years private lesson experience

10+ years working with children through professional employment

6+ years public school band and orchestra director

How did you get started teaching?

My family has a long history of music teaching.  My grandfather was a high school band director, and my father was a trumpet player for the Air Force Band in Washington, DC, followed by a career in teaching for public schools.  I have always enjoyed music, and love working with children of all ages, helping them develop a love for music as well.

What types of students have you worked with?

I mostly work with students ages 4-18 from all backgrounds and experiences.  I also can adapt my teaching to your goals, strengths and weaknesses.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

It doesn't hurt to tryout few different teachers to find someone who has a teaching pattern that fits your learning needs.
