What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We sit down and get to know each other. We like to understand our students' goals, their previous experience, and make sure they are a good fit. We wanna know kind of music they enjoy and why they are interested in the guitar!
Together, we establish our short-term and long-term goals and begin the first lesson.
We like to establish a friendly, relaxed environment. Learning guitar is fun. Sure, lots of practice, but ultimately, fun and REWARDING.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
- Played in various bands
- Music minor at LSU
How did you get started teaching?
Allison began working with teenagers who have never picked up the guitar. Watching them fall in love with the instrument sparked her passion to teach others.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages: children, teenagers, and adults!
All levels.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure you are getting your money's worth and find a teacher who understands you and your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do I want to play guitar?
Where do I want to be in a month? 6 months? A year?
How often do I envision myself practicing?
