Boston Combatives LLC
About
Boston Combatives LLC. specializes in providing Safety, Awareness and Self Defense solutions for adults who are serious about learning to protect themselves and their loved ones from potential danger through the use of Private and Small Group instruction.
Hello, I'm Jermaine Barrett, Founder and Chief Instructor. I started Boston Combatives because I am very passionate about personal protection and I am fully committed to providing you with the very best instruction in that area.
I believe that self defense training should be personalized to suit the needs of the client, and not the other way around. Everyone learns slightly differently, so my training methods are designed to help you learn in your own way, at your own pace, and in accordance with your own personal strengths and weaknesses. If you choose me as your Instructor, I will respect and respond to your fears and concerns.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new customer, it is important to establish what that person’s immediate safety concerns are and to access their current knowledge and experience level in the areas of Safety, Security and Self Defense before proceeding with any form of training. Once the later has been determined, then a learning plan is put into place and training begins.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been involved with the martial arts and self-defense most of my life, and have been working in the Security Industry for over 20 years. Through my experiences, I've been able to figure out what does and does not work in real violent situations. What I'm offering is training based on pressure tested Concepts, Strategies and Techniques learned through my own personal experience and that of other like minded people who have dedicated many years to research, study and implementation.

How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching Martial Arts since 1999 and Self Defense specifically since 2008. Becoming an Instructor was something I knew I wanted to do since I began my formal Martial Arts training in 1994. This has always been my passion.
What types of students have you worked with?
In my 20 plus years as an Instructor, I have worked with students of all ages and from all walks of life.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Anyone looking to hire a Self Defense Instructor should consider asking the following questions: Does the Instructor understand Criminal and Civil Law as they pertain to your rights to self-defense in your state? Does the Instructor understand Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, or other related fields? What if any experience does the Instructor have dealing with real life violence? These are all essential parts of proper Self Defense training that cannot be overlooked.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your expectations and goals for your training? Are there any particular safety or physical defense issues that you would like your instructor to address? Are you looking primarily for physical training or are you also interested in personal safety / violence dynamics training?
