Kathleen McMusing: Quilter, Teacher, Designer
About
I have taught all levels and types of quilting including the very beginner who has never threaded a needle. I have done this for over 17 years in a local quilt store, but as we downsized I moved further away and stopped teaching formal classes. I love to teach.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We would have a phone consultation to see if we are a good fit, and then an intial meeting. We will work for about an hour each time and set up the next meeting when you have accomplished your homework!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40/hour
How did you get started teaching?
I have taught many different things from Sunday school when I was in 8th grade, computer programs in my early 20s/30s and quilting after that. I love to teach and always find myself doing it.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught people who have never threaded a needle or used their sewing machine. I start from where the student is and we go from there.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My favorite classes were Finish It Up classes - you bring in a project and we get it done, step by step. Students came in frustrated with a project, finished it, and then kept going.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what you want to accomplish. Learn to quilt - don't start with a king size double wedding ring - you can but it won't make you happy. Start small and build skills, you can make bigger leaps that way.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you know?
What do you want to make?
When do you want to have it finished?
