Kathleen McDonald Music
Soprano Kathleen McDonald is an acclaimed master voice teacher and active professional performer. She has a well-established vocal studio in the Boston, MA area and is recognized for her outstanding vocal teaching and mentoring abilities, working in all music genres, with students of all ages and levels of experience. Ms. McDonald's students are active professionals and have been accepted to pursue music degrees at highly regarded conservatories and universities and have won numerous competitions and scholarships.
Ms. McDonald has been an Adjunct Professor of Voice on the voice faculties of The College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY; Schenectady County Community College School of Music, Schenectady, NY; Berkshire Community College, Pittsfield, MA; Emma Willard School, Troy, NY and Berkshire Music School, Pittsfield, MA.
In addition to being a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Ms. McDonald is an accredited vocal adjudicator and member of NYSSMA.
Equally at home in opera, musical theater and on the concert stage, Ms. McDonald has shared her artistry in Opera performing with opera companies on both coasts and in concert tours both nationally and internationally.She had the privilege of originating the role of Della in the musical, “The Gift of the Magi.”
Ms. McDonald earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Vocal Performance, summa cum laude, from the University of California, Irvine and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University’s School of Music.
Ms. McDonald teaches private voice, voice class, audition and performance techniques, diction for singers, International Phonetic Alphabet, opera workshop, cabaret workshop, breathing seminars, and classes in ear-training and sight-singing.
Ms. McDonald’s holistic, positive teaching style offers a vocal technique which affirms the vocal fundamentals of healthy singing, helping students to safely produce beautiful sound while tapping into the full potential of their individual voice and mastering appropriate vocal repertoire for their unique vocal and musical interests. Individual vocal goals (i.e. increasing vocal range, etc.) and specific vocal and performance challenges (performance anxiety) are focused on through individually tailored exercises.
