About

Some people are born to make music. I believe anyone can learn to play guitar or ukulele, learn to write songs, learn to sing.

It just takes the right teacher.

I am a touring/teaching Delta blues and gospel musician. II was a finalist in the 2022 Capital REgion Solo Blues Challenge and have played in festivals in Europe and the US, have had music licensed to PBS, taught guitar, songwriting, ukulele and voice in bandcamps and after school programs for over 10 years, as well as giving private lessons. I've built a recording studio in my home and am working on recording and writing for film and tv.

If you are discouraged and think you can't master an instrument, I can help!

You can check out my music at http://www.robinoherin.com

It has links to facebook, reverbnation, spotify, youtube and more.

I love every aspect of my work as a musician--writing music, collaborating, performing, promoting shows, practicing, teaching. It is all part of who I am. I am grateful to be able to follow my passion daily.

Robin leaves me so much space to be myself. She is very encouraging. She won’t let me NOT believe in my abilities. I believe teaching comes naturally to her and her inclusive approach (meeting me exactly where I am) frees me up to go into those vulnerable places that singing and learning a new instrument can take us. She also naturally encourages my creativity. Sometimes she won’t accept no as the answer, she will persist: in this case it works. :) Singing with Robin has opened me up to new horizons of expression that I am not sure how I ever got along before without. She puts an instrument in my hands and gives me the tools to want to understand it more by sharing her her passion for it with me. She helps me feel comfortable with the idea of “performing” something I may not even know well yet....and this practice of “performing” it with her gives me more confidence and skill...it is part of the foundation. Robin is very serious about the process and yet a lesson at the kitchen table (figuratively or literally) can feel as welcoming and as simple as sipping tea together. Finding the right teacher can take time or a miracle. I believe my learning from Robin to be the latter.

I have been taking lessons from Robin for 5 years. She is my 3rd teacher.I picked her when I was ready to quit playing. It was my my last ditch effort after lessons and the internet.
When my wife I set up a lesson with her and my wife asked me if I would ask her if there was a prayer that I would ever learn to play before we started lessons.
I sent an email and asked her.
1 minute later she responded,Where there is breath there is hope.
When I started I thought I would give it a month, but she had confidence in me when I did not.We still work together.
I was a teacher for 2 years and Robin goes where you are.She makes lessons fun and funny. She is self deprecating when she does not have to be.I have referred many people to her.She is great in person and great online.
She teaches more than guitar, she makes me a better person.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to see what a student already knows, what training they might have had and what their goals are.

Then we come up with a plan to integrate the things they are passionate about learning into the lessons.

Lessons include, repertoire, music theory,  and technique, and build in complexity as skill levels increase.

For fingerstyle guitar this could include various strumming patterns, finger exercieses and styles of fingerpicking.

I have a degree in integrated arts in education which I received from UMass Amherst in 2009
I have worked with Guitarsintheclassroom.com training teachers in how to play guitar and ukulele and integrate music into curriculum
