BellyDance For FUN
About
Dance classes focus on having fun, while staying flexible, limber, and working on core abdominal muscles. Bellydance (also known as Oriental Dance) is low-impact, too! I enjoy welcoming beginner dancers to this ancient and soothing form of dance. For intermediate students, we can explore more details of the music and techniques, and gain experience with silk veils, finger cymbals, and even some performance opportunities. It's all FUN! Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If you have never tried bellydancing before, don't wait any longer! The dance moves are natural and low-impact. If you have previous experience, you'll enjoy learning new moves and dusting off your shimmy techniques.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been a student of this dance form since 2012, and have studied with several respected instructors in the region. I perform with Troupe Nour Amar, as well as an occasional solo performance. I am active in the Cairo Cabaret Show, which presents bellydance shows about five times each year in the western Massachusetts area. These shows feature dancers from throughout the Northeast, including Boston, Brattleboro, Hartford, Portland, Providence, New Haven, and several areas of New York.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Classes are affordable, at $15/class. Students may purchase a package of 5 classes for $60/package, and the package is valid throughout the "season" in which it is purchased (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer.)
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when friends and neighbors asked me to start classes for them and their friends. I collaborate with other local instructors to find the best classes for each student; from beginner classes to "prepare for performance" classes. My goal is to encourage every person to have fun with their dance experiences whether it is in my classes or in a colleague's classes!
What types of students have you worked with?
Bellydance is suitable for all body types, it is not necessary to be an athlete in order to be good at bellydancing. It is a low-impact form of exercise, but you can certainly get a workout! Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome to join my class.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Here is a link to the Cairo Cabaret Show, located in western Massachusetts. https://www.facebook.com/pg/cairocabaret/events/
This show features a wonderful variety of novice and professional dances at each performance. It is also a great place to network with local instructors!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for an instructor, follow your "gut." Some instructors prefer to work with advanced students while others enjoy novice dancers. The most important thing is that you settle on a class that makes you smile :)
