About

My teaching approach:

My name is Jordan S. Lovinger, and I am a blues and acoustic percussive guitarist. I have been gigging and teaching since I was 16 years old. I have apprenticed with jazz guitarist, Pete Muldoon (UDC Jazz Band '08) and Matt Kelley (Big Boy Little Band). I give my students the methodology and material so that eventually, they can feel comfortable teaching themselves. Each student who works with me gets their own digital workbook, which they can access from any computer or smartphone. They can use this workbook to check on their homework and also store their lesson related handouts.

My influences are:

I apprenticed with a Jazz guitarist named Pete Muldoon and a blues guitarist named Matt Kelley. I also taught myself how to play percussive guitar. I tend to have a very eclectic style.

My guitar lessons take place in:

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

I teach every day of the week from 10:00AM-10:00PM .

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

First lessons with my students I call "consultations". During these lessons I ask the student questions about their progress and goals, while also asking them to complete certain tasks on guitar so that I can asses their proficiency.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I don't have a one-size-fits-all method, and I certainly do not have students work out of a book. The lessons are collaborative, students tell me what they would like to learn and I try to give them the knowledge, tools and exercises to reach their goals. Generally I like to emphasize homework, as short consistent practice daily is much more effective than prolonged, inconsistent practice.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Someone who keeps a consistent practice schedule (even if it is only five minutes before bed).
