About
I teach comprehensive piano lessons including reading music, theory, ear training, and technique. This allows the student to become a complete musician, able to play and understand many styles of music, and gain a solid knowledge of musical concepts.
As a musician, I find myself in different situations constantly. From day to day I may be playing with the house jazz band at the DC Jazz Jam, running a Sunday Jazz Brunch, playing & conducting at church, accompanying singers, or playing with small bands up to large 16 piece swing bands. By gaining a wide knowledge of music and music concepts, it allows you to discover many different and fun venues to play.
I enjoy passing on the skills I have obtained and developed over more than 50 years of playing music. I also love seeing students get into music and advance in skills and musicianship.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want students to get a comprehensive unstanding of music. In order to do that the student must learn to read music, develop good technique, understand music theory and develop their ears. This allows them to play many types of music and become a complete musician.
