Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We are always accepting new students. If we are able to accommodate classes or private lessons in the gallery, we strive to do that because our space has been tailored as a virtual stimulus for artists. Students may email us a brief summary of what they are trying to get out of a class and we will create a private lesson that is right for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Not only am I an active artist, I am an Art Educator as well. I know that people have different learning styles and teaching styles. I thrive in individual class settings, making sure the student is getting focus and direction in every lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching after I realized that there is a giant need for privatized lessons. Teaching in schools and working with students in class settings are great but they aren't for everyone. Being able to execute lessons with meaning behind them is one of our missions at Lions & Rabbits.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with students of all ages, backgrounds and cultural differences. Our mission is to contribute to a growing inclusive society. I have also worked with special needs students that have mental or physical affiliated .
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We are always having events. Promoting local businesses and working with every day people are our favorite things. We have had Art Therapy nights, bringing in licensed therapists as well as done wildlife drawing- having real animals come in for open drawing classes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that you vibe well with your teacher. When you have the ability to have private lessons, you should be getting everything you want out of them. Be open and honest, it creates a safe place for you to achieve your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should make a plan with their teacher. This will facilitate open communication and you will be able to set realistic goals. Make sure you are getting what you want out of your sessions.
