The pinnacle of Rod Lidenberg’s 40-year teaching career came when he was named to GOLF Magazine’s “Top 100′′ Teachers in America. He joins an elite list of fellow instructors including David Leadbetter, Butch Harmon, and the late Jim Flick. In this capacity, he serves as a consultant and contributing writer for this time-honored magazine published in New York City.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
i like to sit down with each student before the lesson to review their history and to understand their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a PGA Master Professional which is the highest designation offered within the organization. i'm also a GOLF Magazine "Top 100" instructor with 40 plus years of experience.

How did you get started teaching?
I started as a caddy. My intetest in the game kead to working at a golf course on the driving range at age 15. i assumed the role of Head Professional at the age of 21 and than began teaching. I started in Fargo, N.D. and moved to Minneapolis in the mid-70's accepting the job as Teaching Prifessional at interkachen C.C. Since that time I have taught at Ric Acres G.C, Richfield; Rolling Green C.C. (now Medina C.C.); Prestwick G.C. in Woodbury; and presently HALLA GREENS G.C. in Chanhassen in the summer and THE GOLF ZONE, Chaska in the winter.
What types of students have you worked with?
i have had great success with students of every age from 4 years old to 90 inluding men and women at every level: beginners; intermediate pkayers; and advanced players. My specialty is training elite junior players, helping them make their high school team, earn college scholarships and maybe one day play on tour. I have three junior players who went on to play on the PGA Tour having won a combined total of $38 million.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
An eight grade student that i had been working with just made her high school team.
I had another takented student who needed a new driver but his parents didn't have the money to buy a new one. I was able to secure a driver for him and his family at no cost.
I work with one of the players on the University of Minnesota Women's team. She recently lead the team while playing in a major collegiate tournament.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Place yourself in the hands of the teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Thet should just answer whatever questions the teacher asks honestly and completely.
