About
As an artist-teacher for over 35 years and spanning multiple age groups I have the unique background that accomplished artists and students find compelling. My process combines photorealist imagery with cultural ties that engage deeper thinking.
My teaching experience is layered from elementary through college with curriculum I designed and wrote for multiple private and public settings. Beyond stateside venues, I taught in Hong Kong and after retiring from public teaching partnered with the Minnesota State Arts Board as an artist-in-residence for two years.
Currently I have a studio where my work ranges from large scale paintings to colored pencil and woodblock prints.
My lessons in pastel animal portraits have captured the imagination of students from Washington DC to schools in the Midwest, and has become my forte in kindling enthusiasm in children and adults.

Most importantly, when I am engaged in my work I'm learning what inspired me to think differently. In the process I become tenacious about getting the imagery right.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin working with new students by conversing about their art education background to establish a proper way to address skill sets, then ask what level of achievement they desire and how much they are able to commit to their goal.
