About
For folks in the NC Triangle area, I give drum set, percussion (djembe, conga), and kora lessons during the week. All skill levels are welcome!
Drum set: I have been playing since 1993 and teaching off and on since 2005. My favorite syles are rock, blues, funk, international styles, and punk, including double-kick techniques. I toured the USA and Europe between 1997-2008, and I can't wait to show you what I've learned.
Djembe and Congas: I have been playing since 1997, and teaching since 2001. I use a somewhat traditional approach according to the music form (i.e. for djembe - West African; for Congas - Cuban), but I also enjoy teaching folks who just want to play hand drums! I've trained in Mali, Senegal, Sweden, and the USA, and I can't wait to introduce you to all the wonderful drumming from these parts of the world.
Drumming is a serious art form, but it's also a very healing activity for your mind, body, and soul! The vibrations we make when drumming can be quite medicinal for us, and for the audience when we play.
My job as a musician and teacher is to help you achieve your goals while at the same time, bring you joy in it's many shapes and forms! It's very rewarding, but it's not without hard work. I love what I do, and as we all know, it's great to work with someone (no matter what profession they're in) who loves what they do!
I can't wait to assist you on your drumming journey, no matter what your goals are.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with new students, I always take time to assess *why* they are taking lessons and what their goals are. What would you like to get out of our lessons together? This helps me determine how and what to teach you, because I want my students to feel challenged and have fun, while making the desired improvements
