Skip De Lyon Guitar Lessons
About
My teaching approach: I start by asking my students what their influences are and what they want to accomplish from the lessons. I continue by introducing them to the importance of tuning, and introduce chord shapes and scales. Students will require tuners, chord books, and the the appropriate lesson books. I currently work in the public school system, teaching music in elementary school, and place my classroom experiences into my students' learning. My influences are: Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix, Dave Matthews, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson, Billy Corgan, The Edge, Wyclef Jean, Segovia My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio or the student's home Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: Student's homes in the Raleigh area, or my apartment if you live in or near Knightdale. Guitar Techniques: Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Fingerstyle, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Reading Music, Open tuning, Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I ask the beginning student about their background, such as whether they have played guitar, or any other instruments, before. I assess their specific needs by asking them to copy what I do, starting with simple chords and working up to more complicated fingerings. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: Each week I quiz my stidents on the previous week's material. In the second or third week, I introduce their first song. If the student is more advanced, I move them further up in the curiculum. I push my students to learn y reading music, not just by playing by ear or following tablature. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: One who considers all types of music, has patience and respect, and practices everyday as much as possible, without abandoning their other responsibilities.
I love sharing my knowledge and experiences with others, passing on my skills and passion for music to the coming generations, though I have taught music to students of all ages and backgrounds.
