About

My teaching approach:

To be a good teacher , you have to be a good listener. You also have to be very, very patient. Students are often naturally anxious, and part of a good teachers job is to try and put the student at ease, so they can relax, and play. We want to play music, not work music. My home studio which is also my recording studio, is completely equipped with amps for guitar and bass, easy access to the internet or players for listening to new music. If needed, we can record the lesson so the student can refer to it at home. I have a wide variety of musical books and materials that cover almost any style.

My influences are:

My influences are Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, B.B. King, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Louis Armstrong , P Funk, Joni Mitchell, Robert Johnson, Duane Allman, Lowell George, Motown, James Taylor

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Lessons are given Monday - - Thursday-Tuesday from 11 AM - 8 PM Wednesday 11AM - 4 PM Saturday 11 AM - 5 PM

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Performance, Improvisation, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

In the introductory lesson, I ask and listen. I'll have them fill out a get to know you questionnaire , then have them play what they know or like while I'm out of the room. The student usually feels a little less pressure to impress without the teacher 4 feet way from them. I then ask a few more questions, not necessarily about music, but about them. I will then give examples of the music that I play, either live or recorded or both, then introduce them to the materials that we will be using to make the a better musician.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Our guitar lesson would include reviewing our reading exercises.perhaps at first without the drum machine timekeeper, and then with it. We might review the new chords we learned last week, and play the song that song that came with that lesson. Advanced students would have scale exercises to play, reading or tabs, especially if they are playing melodies , learning guitar solos, or creating their own. I explain how and why the scale is used , and perhaps how the chords and scales work in the song. I will play along with the student, as demonstration can be the best teacher. Then we review.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal guitar student is eager to learn, willing to make the time to get better, and willing to practice what I ask of them. They should have a playful positive attitude about life, and be well adjusted. They could be 9 years old, or 75 with eyes open.
