About

My name is Michael O’Brien. I am the Head of Baseball Operations/Training at Name Your Sport training and entertainment facility in Runnemede, NJ. I played baseball for 15+ years and I currently coach varsity baseball at Triton Regional High School. As my baseball playing career has come to an end, I am eager to keep the game alive by sharing my knowledge and experience with young athletes. I am passionate about the sport of baseball, and I hope to work with athletes who share that passion in order to make them the best player they can be.

I offer private hitting and fielding lessons to players who feel they may be struggling at the plate or simply just want to put themselves above the competition. My lessons are offered in a one-on-one setting for a more personal session or a small group of up to four athletes to ensure each player receives the same amount of individualized feedback. I plan to work diligently with the athletes to strengthen their skills and give them a better understanding of the game. Likewise, with the HitTrax system at Name Your Sport, I will be able to videotape players’ form and monitor statistics in order to observe progression. Given that I am a younger trainer who is recently retired from the sport, I believe I will be able to connect with young athletes and relate to them in a way other trainers cannot. My ultimate goal is to build connections with my clients in a way that it will not only make them a noticeably better player, but it will also make them fall in love with the game just like I did.

I enjoy working with young athletes because when I was their age I was able to receive instruction from many great coaches that allowed me to go on to the college level. Having experienced all these different coaching styles and ideologies I am looking forward to transferring my knowledge to the next generation of baseball players.

I recently had my sons 7th birthday party here and the kids had a BLAST! My son said it was the best day of his life!!! Jen & Mike (owners) were extremely accommodating and the staff was friendly & great with the kids! They played some games on the simulators, played dodge ball & a game of wiffle ball! If you want to have fun with your kids, family, or friends you will have a great time here!
Also, they are following all CDC guidelines. The parents of the kids were extremely impressed & all felt very comfortable & safe during the party!

The place is really done right. You feel a little spoiled because of how nice it is on the inside. I am used to cold warehouses with poor lighting for winter baseball training. Rob and his team are great.

Awesome awesome awesome!!! We had my sons birthday party here and couldnt have been happier. The staff went above and beyond to help out and took care of everything we needed. The kids had the time of their lives, and so did the adults. Im definitely going to be taking my sons back, I have three, and while they practice and play any sport you could imagine, Ill be on the golf course. The virtual one anyway. Thank you Mike, Carley, Neena and everyone at Name Your Sport for helping to make my little mans day so special. You couldnt have a better staff, Id give you 10 stars if I could. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys sports in any fashion.

Very informative, easy to talk to and learn from. The equipment made it very easy to train and work on my swing. Very excited to go back!

    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student I first just do a round of swings so I can see what their current swing looks like and then I will discuss with them what they are trying to accomplish and how I will help them achieve their goal.

I am an ex-college baseball player that now coaches high school baseball at Triton Regional High School

I have a passion for baseball and have always had an interest in coaching and once I started working at Triton I wanted to start doing private lessons as well.

I have worked with players from ages 8 to 18.
