Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It is important to meet the student at their level as everyone learns at different paces. We will explore where you are as well as where you would like to go and what you would like to achieve. It may be trumpet proficiency, musicality, dealing with performance anxiety, learning how to set goals and find motivtion, or something else! From there an individualized plan will be created for YOUR progress!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Teaching Experiences Include:
· High Brass Tech for Encorps Drum and Bugle Corps
· Private Trumpet Instructor
· Assistant Band Director, Yough Senior High School, PA
· Substitute Teacher
How did you get started teaching?
Did you ever have such a passion for something that you simply knew it would be your life? Where you felt in your soul that THIS was you. Where you were able to express yourself fully through this, where you may have struggled to do so in other methods?
This is trumpet for me. Music is my passion. Trumpet is my soul.
From the time I was three years old, I told people I wanted to play trumpet like Louis Armstrong. I knew then, and I know now. This is where I truly feel like a true representation of myself. Though others tried to sway me or introduce me to new things, it all came back to music and trumpet.
I am blessed to have had fantastic opportunities, teachers, and experiences in music. It is my turn to inspire others. Whether that is through my playing or teaching, that is what this is about. Music is an expression of one’s soul. Music is also inspirational. This is who I am and why I play and teach.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, from beginners to adults. I have worked with students in a one on one setting, in small group settings, and in large group settings, both as a private instructor and as a teacher.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who understands YOUR needs, not someone who wants to lead you down the path they took. No two musicians or people walk the same path.
