Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I try to evaluate the student's level of playing so that I can effectively start from a place appropriate to their skill level. From there, I create a customized approach to working with that individual.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree in music from SUNY Purchase. I also have 30 years of experience playing live and in recording studios.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is $30 per half hour. I offer 45 and 60 minute lessons as well
How did you get started teaching?
I always admired my teachers and as soon as I could I started to show other people how to play. Eventually I started teaching formally at a music store where I worked.
What types of students have you worked with?
All skill levels and all ages.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a passionate teacher with a lot of experience in the real world. Find someone who you like personally as well because you will be spending one on one time with that person once a week.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How much should I practice?
What is expected of me each lesson?
What are my playing goals?
