About

The Randolph Martoal Arts Academy is a certified and accredited member of the American Budo Kai. We focus on Karate-Do, tenets such as Integrity, Discipline, self-confidence, focus, respect & courtesy. We teach a combination of Isshinryu Karate developed in Okinawa, the homeland of Karate as well as Judo and Kobudo. Our martial arts training focuses on safe, fun, professionally taught karate for kids teens and adults.

Ultimately, we want to make people better- in character as well as be able to properly defend themselves in real life situations. Our goal is to bring character-based martial arts martial arts training to the towns of Randolph, Mendham, and the surrounding communities, and to help as many families as possible. We love helping people, esp. children, but teach all age groups to beome better.

    Frequently asked questions

New students get their first trial lesson for free so that we may evaluate them and more importantly so that both the student, and if applicable, the parent, can evaluate us and make sure it's a good match for what they're looking for, and then we go from there, normally into a special before enrollment. On their first day, the new student will get some one on one training in the beginning with a member of the staff as well as a tour of the Dojo, and the parent, if the student is a child, or the student, will get a free consultation with the Instructor. The student will then participate in the group lesson.

The Head Instructor has been studying the martial arts that are taught at the school for over 32 years and hads been teaching for over 27 years. The Instructors are all senior ranking Black Belts with at least 20+ years or more of study. The staff is in a highly strict program where they attend special classes and additional teaching training and must be certified by the Head Instructor. The Head Instructor, himself, must also be certified each year by the Director of the Association. We follow a strict set of guidleines in order to provide the most professional training possible.

We do have a typical pricing system. We start each new student with a free trial lesson for evaluation pruposes as stated above, and then if that goes well, move into a special. Specials vary, however, at the end of the specific special period being offered at that time, we move into enrollment. Enrollments vary slightly depending on factors such as age, but most enrollments run initially 3-6 months.

Our Head Instructor, even though he started as a child, had always been fascinated by the art of teaching and how it helped him and his peers. Once he was old enough, as a young teen, and the official teaching program was instituted, he joined the program and started assisting in teaching children, then shortly after leanred how to teach teens and adults and has also been on staff at the Association's annual Karate Camp since 1996. His younger brother followed a couple years later in his footsteps and himself has over 30 years' experience, and the Head Instructor's sister-in-law (his brother's wife) who also happened to start training as a child, followed suite in joining the staff. The Dojo is really a family school and now the Assistant Instructors on staff learn directly how to teach from this very experienced senior group.

We have worked with all kinds fo students from ages 3 & up, some in their 70's as well as from many different ethnicities, identities, and genders. The Instructors have all had their skills honed in multiple schools within the association, and have experience with people with autism, ADD, & ADHD as well as hearing-impared and those with other physicial conditions. The staff's experience is extrememly varied.
