About

Gail Bell is a Certified Advanced MELT instructor, trained breathing specialist, professional vocal coach, and actress.

Gail discovered the M.E.L.T. Method in 2008 and was astonished by its ability to alleviate aches and pains, reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance athletic performance. She devoted the next three years to an intense study of anatomy, breathing and movement, both with Sue Hitzmann, MELT’s creator and Leslie Kaminoff of The Breathing Project. Gail has also studied Carl Stough’s Principles of Breathing Cordination, Feldenkrais, Fitzmaurice, and the Alexander Technique.

Gail is an adjunct professor in the Graduate Acting Program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. An actor by trade and a member of Equity, S.A.G and A.F.T.R.A, Gail is dedicated to helping others unlock their full potential. She has incorporated her stage experience and MELT into her vocal coaching with actors. They have found an immediate response in finding their natural, supported voice.

Gail is currently teaching both MELT and Voice & Speech privately in New York City.

I love helping people connect to their breath and release tension in their bodies and their voices.

A very unique and relaxing approach to connecting to breath - as a performer Ive always heard the importance of connecting to ones breath, but never was able to access it. MELT Voice has allowed me to access and let go of the tensions stored in my body to help the breath flow with more ease. Gail is a very knowledgeable, giving, and gifted instructor. If you are looking to authentically connect to your voice, she is your go to!

Precision, attention to detail, material and clarity - these are some of the qualities I admire about working with Gail. And it has been great fun working with such a knowledgable, enthusiastic and caring teacher.

Taking Gail’s class had such a profound effect on my body, my breath and my voice. I have been in other classes before that focus on these areas, but Gail’s integration of the MELT technique and Breathing Coordination goes above and beyond in understanding the interconnectedness of the various elements of a performer’s instrument. I felt more present in each moment and more connected to the depths of my emotional life. Most of all, I was amazed at how the range and resonance of my voice had expanded with just a short warm-up using the tools she provides. I highly recommend her class to all performers.

Gail’s class has really transformed a lot of things for me – brought many things that I wasn’t aware of to the forefront with my breath / tension and habits – it hasn’t just transformed my acting.
It has helped my day to day breathing – which is a huuuuuuge source of tension in my life – connecting to a deeper breath has helped me tire less in exercising too – I’m confident that reinforcing the practice over and over will make things a lot easier for my body and eventually it will be a more of a natural action.

Melt has had an immediate calming effect on chronic tension in my neck and shoulders, which I had not been able to lessen with various other modalities, including yoga, Feldenkrais and tai chi.
Gail is a superb, thoughtful, and dynamic teacher whose background as a voice and breathing expert is a wonderful asset to our Melt practice. Her classes are an essential part of my lifestyle!

Gail is more than a teacher; she’s a Master. Under her tutelage, my life-long high pitch voice has evolved into to an appealing, balanced sound.
