About

I believe songwriting is about finding and best framing your own personal voice.

I show my students places to look for inspiration, what to do when they are stuck, and a few guidelines for turning it all into a cohesive song. I guarantee you will be satisfied with the improvement in your confidence and your songs!

My compositions have been recorded professionally by rising pop and rock artists. Others have become finalists in major songwriting competitions. You can hear some of my work here:

Frequently asked questions

Writing a song is the most exciting feeling in the world.

My goal is to help you to find and expand your own voice. If the student has already written any songs, I'll listen to them to get an idea of where we are starting.

Next I'll share some exercises to find inspiration when stuck. You will go through these together with me, as well as on your own.

Finally I'll show you guidelines for combining your ideas into cohesive songs.

We'll repeat these steps as often as you like to get the best compositions possible!

I have 10 years experience writing songs, seeking and providing feedback to other songwriters, entering them into competitions, and recording them.

I've spent years learning and developing ways of finding inspiration, as well as analyzing what makes a song work well. I've participated in several songwriting circles, where aspiring and professional songwriters sing and exchange feedback on their compositions.

My standard lesson is 1h for $60 if I go to you (NYC area), $50 if you come to me. I suggest one lesson every one or two weeks.

I love taking things apart to understand them, whether it is toys, machines, or songs. I started teaching after doing a workshop with other songwriters, where we exchanged our honest and objective feedback.

The improvements from this exercise made me realize that I needed to find others who were willing to provide real feedback. I enjoy nothing more than providing the same.

I've worked with everyone from beginning songwriters to working recording artists.

Find a teacher who can show you ways of finding inspiration, who will also give honest feedback. It's easy to become attached to your songs, but others are often more objective.
