Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Initially, I will work with the student to determine what the student's ideas are and how I can help them realize their creative vision.
To start a new painting we will work with a sketch to make a good composition and then quickly move to blocking in the canvas in color. I will show the student how to mix color and I'll demonstrate paint handling techniques.
In a drawing class, I like to work with charcoal on gray paper with white chalk highlights. It's the fastest way to get natural, atmospheric effects. I can also work with graphite, pen and ink or ink washes.
Throughout the class I will guide the student with critiques and general art theory and advanced demonstrations.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA and gradute training at the Art Student League in New York. I have studied academic drawing and painting in academies in Florence, Italy.
I teach drawing and painting in New York and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
