My favorite part of teaching guitar is helping students learn how to play a certain song they like and possibilities for musical expression and creation.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start with where the student is at to assess what they already know, don't know, want to know, etc... and go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Private lessons, college & university courses including music theory, performance, and production.
The most valuable education is the 40 years + of playing and performing experiences.

Started teaching when I was in high school to classmates.

Mostly beginner and intermediate. Some advanced.

Recently held a group class where students took turns playing and performing songs and techniques they have learned.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Do your research. Find or request audio recordings or videos of the teacher performing or teaching a lesson. But keep in mind that a good performer may not necessarily be a good teacher.
