About

I love music just as I know you do. As I teach guitar, it is my goal to help you find enjoyment in the instrument and learn to express you own love for music.

My favorite way to teach new concepts is within the spectrum of learning songs. When a student chooses their favorite songs to learn then their inspiration and drive is at its max.

I have found a low pressure approach to teaching to be the most effective. That was the way that I learned best. Of course low pressure does not mean lazy. Dignify each student with individual attention and respect.

My lessons can include warm ups, review of previous assignments, learning songs while applying technique. As a student you will build your own repertoire of songs to play.

I enjoy being able to share music with those both younger and older than me.

Seeing young people progress on the guitar is so rewarding. It is amazing to teach adults who are rediscovering the electric guitar since playing as teenagers. It is a joy to look at old videos or recordings of my students and compare them to their present abilities.

I just love playing guitar, talking guitar, learning guitar, and teaching guitar.

Frequently asked questions

There are two things that I am particularly interested in when I first start working with a new student. Inspiration and desired direction.

All students, 5 years old to 75 years old, have things that inspire them. Some have favorite bands or artists that they want to play like. Some are excited by other forms of art or aspects of nature that they want to express in their own unique way. I want to be on the same page as their inspiration. That is step one.

What is a student's desired direction. Within the space that is "learning guitar" we can take as far as you want. Not everyone has the same goal and that's ok. Once I can get in tune with a students desired direction than we can accelerate the learning process.

I started teaching guitar when I was fifteen years old. I was taking private lessons at the time and my teacher was about to take a two month sabbatical. For those two months he offered me the opportunity to teach four of his students. I taught a six year old who wanted to play Smoke On The Water, a 65 year old who loved bluegrass, a ten year old who was an aspiring country performer and a teenager who wanted to rock to Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.

After those two months, I was hooked. So I kept teaching.
