Amanda's Music Lessons
About
I have been teaching music for over 15 years. My degrees are in the French horn (BFA, MA, and DMA), but I also have extensive piano teaching experience for ages 5-adult (including having been adjunct faculty at NYU), and have taught music theory and ear training for grades 4 - adult. I also have experience teaching students that have ADHD or are on the Autism spectrum.
I have successfully prepared French horn students for NYSSMA (many of my students have been received placements in Honor band), the Royal Conservatory (my students have all scored 90 or higher, one was selected to perform in their Celebration of Excellence Recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall), and AP Music Theory (all of my students last year received 5s on their exam), and have prepared students for entrance auditions to private high schools, all have been offered placements.
I have always had a passion for teaching music. I strongly believe that a well-rounded education includes music, that learning music is good for both the brain and the heart. While I am very proud of my higher achieving students, I am just as proud of my students who simply love music and know they will always find a place for it in their lives. I also enjoy working with adult learners, it's never too late to learn!
I love helping students accomplish their goals!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It depends on the age and skill level of the student. Basics are very important, the first few lessons will probably be seeing where the student is in this process, and then making a plan for the future (depending on their goals). I have excellent communication with parents (I was once Associate Dean of a community music conservatory) and am very organized/great at making and executing a plan.
