About

Since 2009 we have been taking beginners and turning them into great artists. We offer a wide range of part-time study options for adult students. Throughout the week, we offer classes in Portraiture • Figure Drawing and Painting • Oil painting •Watercolor • Pen and Ink • Pastel and many others.

From entry level to more advanced, we don’t simply offer classes, but also an entire program to help our students grow as artists. The Figurative CoreTMProgram is the only one of its kind on Long Island.

Students of all ages make rapid improvements in our classes because of the excellence of our faculty and a commitment to the foundations of academic drawing and painting. Our clients are our community, and we take their needs seriously.

    Frequently asked questions

Students are given a small drawing assignment to work on. How they do with that assignment allows us to assess where they are in our curiculum. Each students moves at their own pace through our program.

Our faculty are our biggest resource and one of the primary reasons for our success. At a bare minimum, each of our them has achieved a level of technical skill in their own work that qualifies them to teach others. But they are also working artists in a very competitive industry. They bring an expertise to the classroom that is tough to match and rarely found outside of a place like our studio. Some of our faculty teach workshops around the country and internationally. In the the past decade of being in business, we have had the pleasure of working with some of the very best art instructors in the business.

Yes. All of our classes are completed in 8 week sessions, priced at $370. We take a week off and then repeat.

The Teaching Studios of Art was founded in 2009 by the artist Rob Zeller with a vision for a new kind of art school: classical in technique, yet laid back in approach. The seriousness and focus of a full time atelier program would be made available to part time students - kids, teens and adults.. He thought it important to have a wide variety of approaches taught, unified by only one, overarching criteria: excellence.

We have worked with thousands of students since we opened in 2009. We teach children, teens and adults. Our methods have proven successful because traditional techniques are as relevant now as they were centuries ago. We teach children and teens the same thing we teach the adults, but in an age appropriate manner.

The recent Figure Drawing on Toned Paper workshop with the artist Daniel Maidman was not only sold out, but was a huge success. We are very proud of the high quality workshops we offer.

Please look at the art work of the instructor. If you like the art, you will usually like his/her teaching. This is not always the case, but it most often is. Artwork speaks for itself. Learn from someone you would like to make art work of a similar fashion.

If you have exeprience already in art, ask:
Does this instructor have the relevant skill and experience to bring me to the next level?

If you are a beginnner, great! You have more options. Is this instrcutor pleasant, agreeable? Can they help me learn the basics in an encouraging way?
