About
Since 1987, when ILISA was founded in Costa Rica, our mission was clear: to help you reach your learning goals by creating the ideal conditions in which to learn. Since that time, we have worked hard to exceed your expectations both in and outside the classroom.
We have been offering high quality online Spanish instruction since 2013. Currently we teach students in the US, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
We combine a highly motivated and well-trained staff with flexible and professional service. That’s why we are the only language school in Latin America to guarantee your satisfaction.
We are SIELE accredited center and we can also offer college credits through St. Petersburg College.
We enjoy a lot to see how students progress in their Spanish abilities from beginners to advanced. It is rewarding to hear from our former students how Spanish has changed their lives and professional careers.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At ILISA we have lots of experience working with students of all Spanish levels.
If a prospective student is interested in our online program we arrange a one hour free trial.
This free-trial is a great opportunity to understand our methodology and get to know one of our instructors.
After the trial, we contact the prospective student to hear their feedback. If they were satisfied with their class, we help them schedule their lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our teachers are the backbone of our program and our walking credentials. We couldn’t be prouder of their skills, their background and their professionalism.
All of them hold a college degree in different areas including History, Journalism, Anthropology, Philology and more. Some of them hold a Master Degree on Teaching Spanish as Second Language.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

How did you get started teaching?
Since 1987, when ILISA was founded in Costa Rica, our mission was clear: to help you reach your learning goals by creating the ideal conditions in which to learn. Since that time, we have worked hard to exceed your expectations both in and outside the classroom.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with children and teens between 8 years-old and 18 years-old either to help them speak the language for a personal goal or to tutor after the elementary or high school lessons. We have worked with individuals or small groups.
We work mainly with adults of all ages that learn the language for professional porpuses or personal goals. Some professionals that we have been working are:
Teachers that want to improve their communication with their hispanic students or their parents.
Health professionals that need spanish in their everyday life.
Speech Language Pathologists that need also Spanish to communicate with their patient's parents or with their hispanic patients, either children or adults.
Also we can mention:
Lawyers, architects, diplomats, Engineers and retirees that want to learn a language.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Experience and background would be the important characteristic to hire a teacher. The fact a person speak the language do not make them able to teach that language.
All our teachers are native speakers but also hold degrees and continuous trainning that help them offer high quality lessons using not only the language but all different online resources available to improve their students' experience.
Our teaching staff-our most important asset-has over one hundred years of accumulated teaching experience and have all participated in our rigorous continuous development program.
We know that they will make you feel very comfortable, and more importantly, exceed your expectations for teacher quality.
