I am a trained speech-language pathologist who has a passion for accent modification! I have lived in Spain for 7 years, and in addition to my Master of Speech-Language Pathology, I hold and Qualifi Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I have 7 years experience providing virtual session. I have a clinical speech background and experience in the areas of performance and presentation in the professional sector and the entertainment sector.
As communication specialists, speech language pathologists (SLPs) are uniquely qualified to provide accent modification training:
· SLPs take undergraduate and graduate courses in language development, articulation, phonetics, phonology, and the anatomy and physiology of the speech & hearing mechanism.
· SLPs are experts trained in modifying, remediating and habilitating speech sound production.
· SLPs have also received training in voice, and resonance, as well as the suprasegmental aspects of speech, language and communication. These include stress, rhythm, intonation, word linking & word reductions.
· SLPs are knowledgeable in nonverbal communication skills, such as volume, tone of voice, facial expression and body language.
· SLPs take a holistic approach, and train English pronunciation and communication skills to refine and strengthen the whole package (verbal, non-verbal, and cultural communication skills).
· Their education includes years of training and fellowship work (working under another certified SLP), and continuing education hours every year.
· When looking for a professional to assist in your accent management, consider an SLP first.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A consultation will give you the opportunity to express your goals for accent modification lessons. You may have a particular event or presentation that you would like to focus on, or you may have a particular speech sound or aspect of your accent that you would like to target. This is the time to share your hopes and challenges.
Assessment: During the assessment you will complete various tasks which will provide information regarding all aspects of your speech. This assessment along with the information gathered in the initial consulation will guide the direction of the lessons. You will ge given specific goals that we will work on that can be measured and monitored.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a trained, experienced speech-language pathologist with years of clinical experience. In addition to my training as a speech-language pathologist, I am also a certified TEFL instructor. My experience in the entertainment field as a performer and my undergraduate degree in Business Management are aspects of my qualifications which provide a unique perspective. I speak Spanish, and understand the challenges of mastering the technical and social aspects of a language.

I work with students of all cultures and backgrounds. Students typically seeking accent modification often come from the business, entertainment, and healthcare sectors. I have experience working with adults and children.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher with whom you feel comfortable and confident, but one who will hold you accountable.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Determine your goals. Think about which aspects of your speech you feel are least effective for you and make a list. Also make a list of your functional goals (ie. "I want my students to better understand what I say during my lectures", "I want to be sure that I make an excellent presentation to my colleagues.", etc)
