Acting With Jroz
About
I am an African American actor with over 25 years of New York City acting experience. I have worked closely with artist such as Suzan-Lori Parks, Stew, and Alec Duffy. I have also been in numerous off-Broadway shows at The Public Theater, Signature Theater, and New York Theater Workshop. Televisin includes Law and Order, Blacklist, Person of Interest, and Boardwalk Empire. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London, I am also a painter and percussionist, and am able to incorporate both into my vocabulary of acting. My approach is tailored to your own story and style, where I think casting agents might want to place you, along with references to techniques such as Sanford Meisner, Michael Checkhov, and Stanislavski. Would love to help you with that monologue, or that big audition!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the case of working on a monologue, I feel the best way to get results is for the actor to tease out thoughts, inspirations, images, or even music. It would be my job to help manifest those images into something tangible/ or physical for an audience to perceive. The deeper we delve in those images, the more your audience will feel! The deeper we delve, the more you will learnas an artist! I am a disciple when it comes to honoring the playwright and their words. The more you are able to attack each script within the confines of the script, the more versatile you will be as an actor.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As stated before, my first introduction to acting was through The Barter Theater. I went on to study Shakespeare at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. With that knowledge I taught at Rikers Academy, Rising City Arts, City Lights Youth Theater, and many, many schools in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing would be 30 dollars for a 45 minute session. However, I would be more than willing to work with someone who would require more help financially.
How did you get started teaching?
After a series of private coaching, a friend asked me to be a part of her teaching organization, City Lights Youth Theater.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked primarily with young actors and artist in various high schools in the boroughs of New York. I have also worked alot with inmates in Rikers Island Horizon Academy, teaching units of Shakespeare and playwriting. This is by far my most rewarding.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The birth of my son Carlo Rozzell!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
GO FOR THE ART!!!
What does this mean? It means that I have seen some of the most talented people I have ever witnessed, not exercise their true potential. Financially and/or creatively. Why? because they got beaten up by reviews, and criticisms. If you understand the power of your art, and how it is imperative to your growth as a human being, and that you are truly interested in the technique of acting, it will help with longevity, passion, and desire in your career. BE A SPONGE!
