About

My teaching approach:

I am a professional musician living in Carroll Gardens. I am 37 years old and have been the staff arranger for American Idol for the past 5 seasons, have played with Sting, Maceo Parker, Dave Mathews, and many others. I have also played, arranged, and composed for many broadway shows and numerous rock, jazz, funk, and pop bands all over the world. I am a VERY good teacher, I really know how to keep a students interest, and I hav

My influences are:

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

The first lesson we simply go over what you know and design a plan from there. If you have never played guitar at all this is not a problem. I have taught many people from scratch.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

My primary approach is to teach through the music that the student loves. I have had a 100% success rate with this approach. First, we learn the song. Then we break it down and study the theory so as to understand why the composer did what they did and improve over all musicalit. Finally we explore improvising. The most important aspect of learning any instrument is that it is fun and founded on the music that the student loves.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Someone who practices at least 30 minutes a day! ;-)

Frequently asked questions

I teach through the music you love.  We learn songs that you want to learn and then break down the theoretical aspects within.  It is so important to always be engaged through a sound that appeals to you.

BA and Masters in guitar, composition and orchestration,

$50 an hour

$30 half hour

i do offer half hour lessons, but the truth is they go by so fast and hour lessons are really what you should be considering.  With any teacher.

I started teaching in college for extra money and I just never stopped.  I now play in the Broadway pits, produce record and play with many artists and yet I still teach.  Dispite an established music career, I still teach for I truly do enjoy it.

All ages and all levels

Really, any live music event which I actually go to quite often.

I would suggest you only commit to one lesson and see if you feel comfortable with the teacher.  It is important that there is some kind of connection.

What do you want to accomplish?  Do you want to read music or do you only care about learning songs?  Do you want to be a lead or a rhythm guitarist?  Do you want to sing and play?  These are just a few broad stroke questions..
