Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start out in an empty parking and work our way up to side streets once I feel they have completed the basic steps, such as accelerating, braking, turning, using the indicator (blinker), etc.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a certified driving instructor, as well as a classroom instructor for the 5 hour pre-licensing course and the 6 hour defensive driving course.
I also have over 10 years and 2,000 hours of driving instructor training on my resume.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $45.00 Cash per 30 minute lesson
and $55.00 Cash per 45 minute lesson.
I also have a 6 lesson package for $275 cash. This package includes a free lesson at no charge, so you are getting 6 lessons for the price of 5.
How did you get started teaching?
Started out working part-time as a driving instructor. After I lost my full time job, I was able to work full time as a driving instructor. I have been back and forth with this cycle ever since, but I have always worked as a driving instructor when I started working back in 2004.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all different type of students, from young students at 16 years of age who just got their permits from older persons as old as in their 50-60's who are just getting over an illness such as a stroke or have been out of the country for years and have had to start the process all over again to get their NYS license.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Nothing recent, but over the course of my career my biggest accomplishment is being able to hold the student's attention during the session and they absorb all of the information that I teach them. And seeing their expression of joy and excitement when they pass their road test is priceless.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You must find someone who has an extreme amount of patience, especially someone who is just starting out. I have an immense amount of patience for all drivers.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It depends if they are experienced drivers or not. Experienced drivers can specify exactly what they need to improve on. If they are new drivers, the teacher will be able to visually see what improvements must be made.
But in the end, the driving instructor will go over all of the major points that need to be addressed not only to pass your road test, but to be a defensive and safe driver.
