Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students who have musical background and/or who can already read music, begin right where they left off with their studies and we build on that together. Students who are new to the piano and/or new to reading music begin with a simple pentatonic scale in 12 keys and from there begin to read in the bass and treble clefs. Lessons are personalized but all include basic musical aspects and theory along with standard piano repertoire and technique.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My education includes a Bachelor in Music Education K-12 with an emphasis in piano and organ and a MS in Education with an emphasis in piano and choral conducting. I stay up to date with current pedagogy practices. I have been the Chair for OFMC Jr. Composition in the past and am currently the Chair for the OFMC Jr. Honors program in District 3G. I have an extensive background in collaborative accompanying as well as being a church musician/Director of Music in the past. I have 18 yrs experience in the collegiate music as well as collegiate theatre.
