Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Yoga:
During our first yoga class together, we chat about your goals for your yoga practice. We then go through a yoga class together. Afterwards we discuss the experience and evaluate our fit as student/teacher for the longer term. We might sip tea together too if time permits. :)
Thai Yoga Massage:
During our first session, I provide an intake form for you to put down your basic info, and more importantly, for you to draw on the provided picture any particular locations of pain or discomfort in your body. The session will seek to attend to your whole body as well as relieve specific areas of tension.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yoga:
My most recent experience was teaching undergrad and grad students yoga at OSU. Each week had a different theme.
Overall, I have 10+ years of yoga teaching experience ranging between classes at gyms, private yoga studios, corporation in-house yoga, and individual lessons. My students have ranged in age from young adults (13) to 70+.
I also incorporate my studies in Alexander Technique and Thai Yoga Massage into my yoga classes.
Thai Yoga Massage (TYM):
My certificate in TYM is from The Om Yoga Studio and School of Thai Massage. I have been practicing this form of massage since 2015. My clients usually feel surprising amounts of release, energy, and freedom of movement after their sessions.
What types of students have you worked with?
Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage:
Undergrads, grads, professors, ice skaters, dancers (lots of dancers), business men and women, and many more!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just taught a Thai Bodywork Workshop at Yoga Six. It was memorable because the material leant itself to creating a peaceful space for feeling and learning. I think it was quite successful.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Feel free to try multiple teachers until you find the one that is right for this time in your life.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I enjoy individual classes or small group or large group classes more?
Which kind of class do I get the most from (learning, enjoyment, looking forward to every week...)?
