Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start with a tour of the facility and go over our programs and classes. We meet with clients and do and physical assessment and history. After going over the students background we discuss fitness/martial arts/boxing goals.
We then allow students to take a couple classes to experience our training before making a decision to train with us.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 30 years of Martial Arts training experience. I have a 10 year background in working with developmentally disabled youth and adults before starting my own gym. I am a USA Boxing Coach, a Certified Personal Trainer, and am a Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinsons Disease certified coach.
I employ and manage a gym with 21 instructors that was voted as a 2017 Finalist as the best gym in Dayton by Dayton Magazine.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The lessons pricing varies by discipline and length of training. The most economical choice for students is to join our gym and they get access to over 60 classes per week and unlimited training for $75 per month for an individual, $100 for a dual plan, and $125 for a family membership plan.
How did you get started teaching?
At 12 years old my Master Taekwondo Instructor ask me to lead a class in warmups. Shortly thereafter I was assisting in classes and a few years later I was teaching my own classes.
What types of students have you worked with?
Currently I have 5 year old Martial Arts students and an 83 year old stroke victim that I provide personal training. I work with my Parkinsons disease clients and teach a Homeschool group martial arts. I have had several hundred personal training clients and our gym has over 250 members.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A local man with Parkinsons disease shuffled into my gym a few months ago. He was on a cane and barely able to walk. He indicated that he only move forward as he falls frequently when he tries to move laterally or backwords. After a couple months in our program he had a miracoulous recovery and was feature in a feature article in the Dayton Daily News about the benefits of Boxing for Parkinsons Disease. Today he jogs and can train on his own and is partipating in our Boxing Exhibition and joining our program as a trainer.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for experience and recommendations. With social media today it is possible to see how any experienced training professional is rated by his or her students. The final advise I would give is to try out the training before making any type of committment.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is my cost?
Can I leave without a big contract penalty?
Can I try out the training before signing anything?
What can I acheive through your training?
