About
LaVonne McDaniel is a highly esteemed violin teacher and performer in the Oklahoma City area. She graduated from Evangel College in Springfield, MO with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, and received a Masters of Music in Violin Performance at the University of Missouri KC in 1989. There, she studied with Tiberius Klausner, the former concertmaster of the Kansas City Symphony. Lavonne also played with the Springfield Symphony from 1980 to 1987.
In 1983, LaVonne opened her private violin studio, which is still thriving today. Lavonne actively taught at Northland Cathedral School of Music, UMKC Continuing Education department, and Johnson County KS Community College in the late 1990s. She was also a professor at Mid America Nazerene University from 1990 to 2000. LaVonne participated in the Northland Cathedral church orchestra from 1988 to 2017. She later helped found the Kansas’ Sunflower String Quartet in 2008 and played with them until 2019, when she relocated to Oklahoma City.
It is fullfilling to watch a student develop over time with practice and in an atmosphere of continual encouragement.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We always begin by evaluating existing experience and skills. From there we work to build the students technique and skills with positive reinforcement.

How did you get started teaching?
Violin was always my passion. In high school I was asked by a collegue to join the faculty of a Suzuki violin school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have started with beginners to advanced from the age of 2 to senior adults.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher with your best interests at heart. Learning the violin should be fullfilling and rewarding for the student. Lessons should always be respectful of student and teacher and the evironment should be full of excitement, joy, and possitivity.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should be ready to commit to a long term development of their skills.
