About

My teaching approach:

I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Oregon. In my 15 years of performing, I have toured extensively throughout the United States, as well as performances in Europe, Australia and East Asia. I have been teaching privately for 9 years, during which I co-owned and co-directed Harmony Roadhouse Studios, a lesson school in Eugene. Lessons will take place in my safe, clean and comfortable studio at the Falcon Art Community at N. Albina and Killingsworth.

My influences are:

I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music, but my favorites include Bill Frisell, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Björk, Paul Simon, Elliott Smith, Johannes Brahms, Keith Jarrett, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Wilco, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Tom Waits, Andres Segovia... list goes on!

My guitar lessons take place in:

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

A first lesson for a beginner will often encompass the basics of tuning the guitar, learning the parts of the instrument, how to make sound with the instrument, and learning several chords. With an intermediate or advanced student, I can often make a preliminary assessment by hearing the student play for a little bit. Any issues that I see that need immediate correction are often a great way to start working toward a greater goal.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Students can expect to work through a method book (which will be recommended by me) as well as pursuing goals that are in line with the student's personal musical interest. Depending on the student's level of ability and preparation, lessons will vary from student to student.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Ideally, a guitar student brings their own enthusiasm and interest toward music to the lesson. I work best with students that have questions and are interested in working toward a goal. I also enjoy teaching a student that listens to a wide variety of music, as I believe there is something to learn from any and all kinds of music.
