About
I am one of the top teachers in my dance style. I trained, taught, and performed internationally with Frankie Manning, THE Father of Lindy Hop/swing dance, for many years - 15 plus.
I have been credited as "the pioneer" in the revival of Lindy hop, Collegiate Shag, SwingBlues, and Charlston in northern Oregon in the 1990s, teaching over 600 students every Sunday at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, and teaching in many cities throughout Oregon through my dance studios "The Joint is Jumpin!" You can view my resume on my website at DeniseSteele.com
My expertise is in Lindy Hop, vernacular jazz, Charleston, and swing line dances
I enjoy teaching all levels, from beginners to performance levels, including individual movement and partner dancing.
I also am available for corporate functions, weddings, and group or couple wedding dance lessons!
My students! I love teaching others to dance - dance is joy: it is therapeutic, healthy, creative, and an important social activity to enjoy throughout your whole life!
I also love traveling and teaching dance in different places in the world. Invite me to teach for your university, school, or workshop event! 😊

Frequently asked questions
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It’s important to decide whether you want private lessons or group lessons. There is a huge difference in cost. If you are asking a teacher to travel to you and teach you or your child privately, then you should be willing to pay for their time traveling to you as well as the lesson.
This is why group lessons are so much less expensive, where you travel to the teacher and they are teaching 10 or 20 students at a time. If you cannot afford to pay for private lessons you should inquire about group lessons.
