About

I am a 1989 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School and played the sport up until an eye injury at the age of 16. I pitched, caught, and played 3rd and NO. I have two sons that have or are playing college ball and a 3rd doing well at the HS level. I have been around the game either playing, coaching, or instructing since 1991 I founded a travel ball team in 2012 and have worked extensively with kids of all ages and skill levels from T-ball age to college. With everything I teach, I focus on a good beginning. With hitting, I teach the elite swing taught and executed at the college and pro levels. No swing down at the ball, no hit ground balls on purpose. The first thing I work on is the hitters approach. After finding this out, I'll take a look at the mechanics of the hitter, and implement drills to correct any problems. I'll then teach the hitter about breathing, getting in a rhythm with the pitcher, and how to spot breaking pitches. With Pitching, we'll start with a thorough warm up and arm care routine. After that, I'll discuss what he wants from training, what problems he has faced, and any injury history they may have. After that, I'll record him from a few angles, discuss any deficiencies they may have, then any correction drills. Again, a good beginning will fix a lot of issues here. I don't give many verbal cues, just drills to teach the feel of how to drive to your target. After the student can consistently locate his fastball, we can work on other pitches and how to work a hitter based on where they stand in the box, their swing, etc. I will also work on the mental approach and will teach sidestep, pickoffs, and how to vary times. **** Pitchers younger than 14 will only be taught a 4-seam, 2-seam, and changeup unless a parent gives permission for something else.

With Catching, We'll go through a warm-up and arm care program. I'll again discuss with the player what their goals are, any problems they've had, injury history, if any, and their approach. I'll record the student receiving, blocking, and pop time. Now if a kid is just starting, we'll work on stances, receiving and swaying and framing. We'll then work on how to block correctly, and finally pop time and, if applicable, how to call a game.

My price is $40 for 60-90 minutes, $30 for 30 minutes. I can afford to charge less because the indoor I use is free to me. I have a full time job, so I'm not looking to rip people off. I also offer a free assessment. I guarantee a marked improvement or your money back.

I've always loved the game, but what made me passionate about teaching was the underdog players. The ones who were told there weren't big enough, fast enough, good enough, etc. My two older sons were both told this and one played ball at D3 Alvernia and my middle son just made a top JUCO team and has interest from two D2 colleges. I don't tell you this to brag, I tell you this because you can do the same or better if you want it and are willing to work for it. You'll never hear me doubt a kid with desire and work ethic. Do you wanna get better and not kill your bank account? Give me a chance, I'll show you how to do just that.

Coach Mike is very knowledgeable about baseball. My son now 16 years old was in a slump with his hitting, Coach Mike new immediately what adjustments needed to be made. Not only did the adjustments work my sons confidence was back. My son responded so well with Coach Mike we decided to continue with his lessons so we could make sure my son was using proper mechanics for when his is catching or pitching. Coach Mike prides himself in making sure athletes use proper mechanics to avoid injury and has prepared and improved my son drastically, for baseball. I highly recommend.

I can’t say enough about Mike’s knowledge of all aspects of baseball. He can teach hitting, pitching and catching with equal knowledge and expertise. My son was already a good player when we met Mike but Mike was able to take his skills to a higher level. Mike is an old school baseball guy yet he is incorporated all the latest newer school training techniques. I highly recommend Mike if you are looking for someone to take your child’s baseball skills forward.

Frequently asked questions

I first ask them what they want from their training, problems they've had, any injury history, their approach to the game, and go from there. I'll then record the student doing hitting, pitching, or catching, go over it with them and then implement proper movement pattern drills to help them achieve their goals. I also like to have fun games thrown in to challenge them and keep them engaged.. I also encourage all students to ask questions so they understand why I'm teaching what I'm teaching. My initial assessment is free to see if I'm a good fit for the student.

I have read, studied. and implemented drills from some of the best online training resources out there. Including driveline baseball, elite tv, 3x velocity, Xan Barksdale, The hitting vault, among many others that are on the cutting edge of the modern scientific approach to baseball.

My pricing is much cheaper due to the fact that I started my own travel baseball program in 2012 and have access to a two-tunnel indoor. It's $40 a lesson and the time slots are 90 minutes to allow for warm-up, and training. A kid can cut it down to 30 minutes for $30, anything over 30 minutes is $40-$50

I was an avid baseball dad and my oldest son got hurt his junior year in HS in 2007 which got me started on looking up proper ways to pitch as all the $500 I spent on the elite throwing program got me was my son under the knife. Since then, I have studied in most of my spare time how to improve mechanics and functional strength. My two younger sons played little league and were coached horribly so that inspired me to study catching, hitting, and defense as hard as I study pitching and the rest is history.

D1 athletes all the way down to T-ballers. I can teach anyone, but I really enjoy the overlooked kids.

I took my very young incoming freshman team to a wood bat tournament against some heavy hitters in the 15/16 tournament and we took home the trophy. We hit over .350 as a team and only gave up 6 runs in 4 games.

Always ask what are your philosophies on hitting, pitching, or catching to the instructor. Don't ever be afraid to ask why if you don't understand a certain drill and just because that person has played at a high level, doesn't mean they can coach it. This isn't rocket science and you shouldn't have to pay prices like it is.

I would suggest every student ask themselves do they truly want to be the best they can be. That requires hard work and sacrifice not only at training, but at home. Mechanics, approach, mental game, etc can be taught. Desire and work ethic come from within.
