About
Claire Metz is a skilled Tribal Fusion Belly Dancer, well versed in Poi and Fire Arts. An ardent performer, she is known for her strong technique in dance and for seamlessly fusing belly dance and poi in her signature style. She has performed with several renowned troupes over the years, including Shadhavar Tribal Duo, Gypsyville Belly Dance, and Panty Raid! Burlesque, most recently performing as a soloist and collaborator with performers in and around her hometown of Knoxville, TN. In 2010 she founded Humaya Tribal Fusion, dance school and student troupe, to share her love of dance with the community of Knoxville and beyond.
A natural teacher, she began teaching Poi in 2005 and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance in 2007. Since then she has taught workshops regionally and at several well-known festivals including Elevation, Asheville Belly Dance Festival and TribOriginal Music and Arts Festival. Claire holds certifications in teaching Belly Dance through the Lisa Zahiya Teacher Training Program, YMCA General Group Fitness Classes and Pilates Mat Level 1 with Power Pilates and is CPR certified.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Classes are warm and inviting with an emphasis on technique and combinations. We begin the class with a warm up and a description of basic technique and posture. Hipwork and footwork are quickly intorduced to create a class that is challenging, but accessible to beginners.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching belly dance and poi for over 10 years. I am certified through Lisa Zahiyas Teacher Training Program.
I also hold a Pilates Mat Level 1 certification with Power Pilates, the Group Fitness Certification through the YMCA and am CPR certified.

Classes are $13 to drop in.
Class cards are $60 for 5, or$100 for 10.
Private Lessons are $60 each or 3 for $150.
