FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I believe in building trust with my students. I don't let go, step back, or otherwise "trick" them into swimming. Everything is their choice on their time, but with a lot of encouragement. I believe students should trust their skills and thereby enjoy swimming. I also focus on proper technique and emphasize safety in every lesson.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am certified as a Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, and Lifeguard Instructor through the American Red Cross. I also hold degrees in Journalism, History, and Theatre Arts from the University of North Texas.

How did you get started teaching?

I began as a water safety aide (WSA) and then became a junior lifeguard. Lifeguard and water safety instructor followed closely behind. When I went to college in Denton, I noticed every neighborhood had a swimming pool without lifeguards. This was alarming but also a great business opportunity. No one was willing to travel to the overcrowded city pool or even further out of town to the new water park. They wanted to walk down the street to their HOA pool. My business was born when the water park shut down for a few days due to a chemical imbalance, and I've never turned back.
