About
Come join me as I will walk you through the non-traditional techniques I use to complete a mixed media painting. You will learn about texturing canvases, using art papers and foil in a painting. I will teach about using metal patina paints, acrylic paints, inks, pastels, colored pencils, graphite and more in your painting. i will also cover photo transfers and using found objects. This is a 2 day workshop-Friday evening 5pm-8 pm and Saturday 10:30 am-4:30 pm during the day. I will show demos and guide you through the process so you will finish a mixed media painting!
I have been an artist over 30 years and apprenticed under various artists and taken workshops to learn mixed media techniques. I am also a founder of an arts organization in Austin that provides resources for artists called Kairos Creative Arts Center.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In one of my mixed media workshop a certain student was getting very emotional near the ending of my class and I approached her. I asked her what was going on and how could I help. She said all her life people would give her negative feedback of how she couldn't do this or that and that she wasn't creative. One of the main reasons she took the class was because she wanted to prove to herself that she could do it. She produced a wonderful painting and she said she experienced that breakthrough she needed in her life with my coaching and encouragement in the process! She realized those were lies that were spoken to her and she was a valuable, creative daughter in God's eyes!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
What are you looking for and what do you want to learn? Many times it is the process and not the final product that is valuable!
