About

My teaching approach:

Beginners, such as children or adults, begin with a combination of the instrument and musicianship. I do use printed (books)methods that otherwise I would be spending all my time preparing lessons on the computer or before computers, on manuscript and tab. It is so time consuming. I have found, through a process of 30 plus years of teaching which methods are suitable for certain age groups, certain styles and personal needs. Everyone is different: so are the methods Electric, acoustic, archtop AMPLIFI amp and FISHMAN acoustic amps are in the studio along with an iPad for quick internet access.

My influences are:

I started with Andres Segovia, Pepe Romero & Christopher Parkening ( classical) at a very young age, mingled with popular artists such as George Harrison ( Beatles) Roy Orbison ( for songwriting), Paco de Lucia ( flamenco) & Juan Martin ( flamenco method), Eric Clapton (blues) Peter, Paul & Mary ( folk music) Jerry Reed & Chet Atkins ( fingerstyle country & blues) Earl Klugh ( fingerstyle jazz).

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Studio: 10am-2pm central In-home: 3-7pm Sun-2-6/Monday 5-7/Tuesday4-8/Wed.630-730/Thursday3-4 & 7-8/Friday330-430 & 530-630/Saturday open

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Performance, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

With everything that was explained above, I would access their comprehension of the material and make sure that they have the mental capacity to do it. It's not that difficult to understand but they, the student, have never been exposed to this skill and to walk away from the first lesson, I normally would like to sense a degree of confidence that the student can "practice" this skill so that I can return and add more. Secondly, I provide the student with a lesson/practice plan that allows to create their own schedule to practice.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Beginner lesson 1.Relateable Parts of the guitar to the human body 2. Tuning with electronic tuners and relative tuning 3.Right hand functionality 4.Left hand functionaltiy 5.Beginner C chord with finger 1, left hand 6.The musical staff and the quarter note slash 7.Strumming to the printed music 8.Beginner chord G7 with finger 1, 9.Tracing and Drawing the quarter note slash on the staff 10.Tracing and Drawing the chords on the grid. 11.Explanation of the chord grid in relation to the staff 12.Drawing out the four slashes to each measure with a barline and ending with a double bar.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Enthusiastic, motivated, and what does the student enjoy listening to...possibly one who has studied piano or another instrument...is computer savvy ..on time...follows a schedule...understands the value of time... and uses the practice plan and method....I have several students who done this... and started 5 years ago and others who have been with me from another source for 1-2 years
