What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Depending on the needs of my client, group, or class. I do a question evaluation, that addresses needs, goals, history, and present state of mind and being. This also includes questions concerning nutrition and stress management.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA in communications, AA degree in exercise physiology, several yoga, fitness and performance certificates. As well as personal growth certificates.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rates are based on session time, travel time, and number of participants, this can range from $40-$300.
How did you get started teaching?
I Started in fitness in 1983 when I was asked to take over a stretch and tone class
I started performance training in 1987 when 3 football players approached me to train them
I started teaching yoga in 1996 when I was asked to get certified to teach a yoga class.
I started gentle therapeutic yoga in 2007 when I was asked to help some one with a major injury then went on to get a therapeutic yoga certification.
What types of students have you worked with?
My age range of clientele has been from 1st graders to elderly in their 80s.
My ability range is from special needs to professional athletes.
I presently teach at lighthouse for the blind and I also have a program called yogaletes for athletes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have the domain yogaconcerts.com I love to teach large groups any level to live music. We just finished the first one this year and will have another one next month.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would suggest they ask them to ask for a reference, then I would ask them what is one of the main focus when they teach.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I clear about what my needs/wants are?
Am i commited to sticking with it?
Am I willing to stop if it truly doesn't feel right?
Will it be stressful affording a teacher?
Will it be best to go to the teacher or have them come to me
Will I be better with a partner to also hold me accountable.
