Amy W. Violin Lesson
About
Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I'm currently pursuing my doctorate degree in Violin Performance at University of North Texas. I started the violin at age of three and have been teaching private lessons since 2008. Besides teaching, I actively participate in competitions, music festivals, orchestra performance, and other performance collaborations. I have got a third prize in the Enkor International Competition and was selected as the finalist for the Lewisville Lake Symphony International concert competition. I have a Bachelor's degree from East China Normal University, School of Music in 2012; and a Master's degree in Violin Performance from LSU School of Music in 2014. I had been teaching collegiate level students at UNT as a teaching fellow from 2016-2018.
As a professional violinist and passionate educator, I have over 12 years of experience teaching students of all levels and ages. I'm classically trained but also have a wide range of repertoire from Early Baroque to 20th century music. I'm a compassionate and encouraging teacher who loves to bring joy to each lesson. My focus is to help each student achieve their personal goals while retaining curiosity as well as excitement through their musical journey.
For beginners, I teach mainly out of Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books in addition to other materials as needed. We will start our journey from looking at our posture, bow hold, open strings, and music reading skills. Then we will progress to playing our first songs and cultivate our practice regiments. I aim to maintain a balance between challenges and enjoyment in my lesson planning. We will acquire a solid foundation for progressively learning all of your desired repertoires.
To intermediate students, we improve upon the overall skills by making necessary corrections in the setup of both hands, increasing the accuracy in intonation, creating smooth shifting skills, learning a relaxed vibrato, and building a beautiful tone quality. I wholly believe that transformative learning among students happens when the proper postures and hand setup have been established. We will implement our techniques into exploring more solo repertoires from Suzuki book IV and onward. I will also help with any school audition music, preparing all-region audition or UIL solo ensemble, and possibly songs upon the your request.
To advanced students, we will continue the mastery of our techniques and choosing repertoire upon your interests or needs. For each repertoire of our choice, we will dive deeper into the interpretation and understanding of each work. I will supplement studies and etudes as a way to build your capacity towards expressing music with accurate musicality and mastering technically demanding repertoires.
For every level of students, I emphasize the efficient practicing method to develop their problem solving skills and thoughtfulness in music playing. I believe a good method of practicing will lead to a more enjoyable and motivated learning experience. I also offer techniques for overcome stage fright to boost their confidence in performance and auditions.
I can't wait to meet you in our lesson!
I love to see the progress students make as well as the joy and fullillment they receive after putting their heart into learning the violin.
