About
As a full-time, in-demand, working drummer having firmly established myself in multiple styles and music communities in D/FW and beyond, including record label releases, festivals (my band was the sole local support for the B52's and the Motels at the Wildflower Festival in 2017), tours (most recently with internationally acclaimed band Young Mothers) and awards (nominated best drummer 2018 and 2019 by the Dallas Observer), I have the broad musical mind to meet the student's personal taste, however specific. I offer "real-world" experience to the lesson, exercising the patience to get the student to new heights at their own comfort level, encouraging instead of criticizing.
My parents are top-tier professional musicians, and their guidance and encouragement, as well as those of countless musical teachers/mentors throughout my life, has been the most valuable aspect to my growth as a musician. I care deeply for sharing this with others who have the same passion for music as I do. To ignite the fire in someone who has felt a calling to music, and enable them to come to the realization that they can be a willing and valuable participant, is very fulfilling to me.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I quickly assess where the student is in their stage of development (beginner, immediate, advanced). If they have had prior instruction, I ask what they were working on, and try to carry on from there. I diagnose areas of strength and weaknesses, and make "bullet points" of areas that could be improved (technique, reading, time, musical awareness, fluidity around the drumset) and begin to create a work plan based on their own individual way of learning. This creates momentum that will perpetuate itself into continued learning and growth!
