About
I will teach you the very basic fundamentals of oil painting. You will learn color theory, values, design and composition, lighting along with mediums and canvas preparation. I teach a classical approach to painting realistically. These fundamentals will set you up for success in a wide variety of styles from abstract to hyper-realism.
I enjoy watching new artists develop and seeing that "light" go on in their eyes when they make a breakthrough on their painting journey.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will supply a list of supplies. We will go over materials; paint, mediums, brushes etc. and discuss which are good quality and which are student grade. We will start working with paint mixing and creating value studies to help to understand what color can do and how it applies to creating realistic paintings.
We will discuss color theory and what it means to painting. Lay out a composition and then get to applying paint.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am mostly self taught but I learned my basics from a very accomplished master artist.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
In person lessons are $175 for 5 lessons at 3 hours per lesson. So 15 hours.
Online lessons are $155 for 5 lessons at 2 hours per lesson. So 10 hours. These are more difficult to teach but are still good classes.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching 34 years ago as a way of supplementing my income. I really enjoyed it and still do today!
