About
Who is Kristen & What is Yoga Therapy
Kristen is a C-IAYT (Certified Yoga Therapist) and an experienced 500 hour registered yoga teacher through Yoga Yoga in Austin, Texas with over a decade of yoga studies and two decades of movement/design. After growing up with dance and exploring both the publishing and tech industries with her B.F.A. in Design, she found herself distant from her body and started her training in hatha flow, restorative, and prenatal yoga. With deepening curiosity and a history of anxiety Kristen extended her studies to becoming a Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. IAYT defines yoga therapy as the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and wellbeing through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga. Kristen has firsthand experience with SI joint instability, rotator cuff injuries, trauma, as well as anxiety/depression conditions improving with the use of yogic tools. As of 2016, Kristen has participated in Prevention Magazine's Annual Women's Health Summit, as well as guest speaking at the University of Texas Dept. of Kinesiology & Health Education. She has lead or participated in 200 hour yoga teacher trainings at Yoga Yoga, Live and Let Live Yoga, CorePower Yoga, Breathe for Change, and Black Swan Yoga. She has also previously taught at Sukha Yoga, Austin Yoga Tree, Hyde Park Yoga, Practice Yoga Austin, and anywhere in Austin she could spread her roots further into the yoga community.
Kristen draws inspiration not only from her teachers Judith Hanson Lasater, Chase Bossart, David Swenson, Anodea Judith, Douglas Brooks, Leslie Kaminoff, Gary Kraftsow, Donna Farhi, & Robin Gueth, but from her daily practice, and more importantly from her students & peers. She believes the best teachers are students first and finds deeper understanding weekly from her mentors Amanda Green, Jenn Wooten, Rachel Hector, and Libby Cox.
Students can expect a safe place to explore whatever it is their body needs regardless of class type. She will follow the tradition of the class description but welcomes self exploration, rest and meditation. She will draw from any tradition that feels good in her body to offer her students a well-rounded healing experience. She strives to push her students when needed but prefers an environment where every student grows a teacher within. Zero judgement, communication and good music are staples in her classroom
