About this pro

I teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and meditation. I have meditated myself and taught various forms of meditation to patients and healthy clients for over 35 years. I have also conducted research on the impact of meditation training for US military service members and veterans. I have seen first-hand how regular meditation can change a persons life, reducing their stress, anxiety, and pain and improving their energy, focus, attention, personal communication, relationships, and self-control. This is a skill you can learn to improve your life!

I also teach and work with individuals using Eden Energy Medicine and Energy Psychology/Emotional Freedom techniques (EFT). These are complimentary interventions and do not replace seeing medical professionals for illness, disease, or traumatic injury. Based on Eastern Medicine techniques, such as accupuncture, hey can assist, however.  For example, early research is demonstrating the effectiveness of EFT and other mind/body techniqes with symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress and reducing the stress and anxiety that often accompany illness and injury. These techniques are particularly fun, because many of them can be taught to the client, so they can use them whenever they feel the need.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Meditation is typically taught in a group, as you learn so much from one another by sharing your meditation experiences.

Energy Medicine and Energy Psychology/EFT can be taught in one or two day workshops for your own use. Check the website for when these are offered, or ask to be put on the waiting list for the next group.

I also see individuals for Energy Medicine and EFT. Please check my website for more information!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have taken classes in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centers Mindfulness Center and also at the University of California - San Diegos Mindfulness Center. I have taught 8 week classes and 5-Day classes within the military and with clients in the San Antonio, TX community.

I am certified in Energy Medicine at the 3-year, Clinical Practitioner Level and am currently in year 4 to become an Advanced Practitioner.

I am certified as an EFT practitioner through the AAMET.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

How did you get started teaching?

I began teaching meditation as an Occupational Therapist in the US Army. I primarily taught individuals who were receiving out-patient counseling through Behavioral Health, as well as individuals in Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation programs. As I moved into research after receiving my doctorate, my research slowly migrated to investigating methods to improve personal resilience and functional performance, and to improve learning and retention. It is within this framework that I began doing research on meditation, teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and teaching and investigating other Alternative Interventions such as Energy Medicine/Energy Psychology and neuromodulator use. In each case, I feel it necessary to obtain credentials within each area that I research. When others find out that I have these skills, they begin asking if I'd teach them or work with them...and I've responded by offering classes!

What types of students have you worked with?

Military, military spouses, doctors, lawyers, nurses, physicians assistants, chefs, technicians of all kinds, university students and university professors, hospice workers, counselors such as social workers and licensed professional counselors, behavioral health technicians, housewives, Chaplains and ministers. Also, individuals with cancer, back pain, chronic pain, emotional pain, and patients recovering from surgery. Individuls with Post-Traumatic stress, with anxiety, high stress, fear-of-failure, seeking to lose weight, break through personal challenges, and feel more vital and alive. I've also worked with those who are simply curious what all the 'hype' is about!
