About
I offer individualized instruction based on student needs and interests unlike conventional classroom setup.
I love creating art and experimenting with new and different techniques. I especially love making colorful and vibrant paintings with depth, which can be challenging at times but exhilaratingly satisfying.
I have been at this for over 50 years and even owned my own art gallery. I still learn more every day and would love to show you what I know and perhaps we can explore together.
My work is representational realism usually, but I enjoy abstract painting as well. My favorite genres are portraits and figures.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first class is 1/2 hour longer to assess level of compentency, discuss interests and specific goals, and establish a confidence. If no specific media is requested a short tuturial on all media is given in order for student to make a selection.
All Instruction is individualized specific to the student's needs and skill level.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a self taught artist who has been drawing and painting for over 5 decades, always experimenting and working to be better. A review of my Artist resume can be seen here: https://handyconcepts.com/about/artist-resume-cv/
How did you get started teaching?
I just like sharing what I know with people who are interested in creating and understanding art in all its forms.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students aged 14 and older. I have worked with students with disabilities, students with intermediate skills and those with no experience at all. So I teach one-on-one based upon what the student needs to get to where they want to go.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently relocated to TX and finally have my studio set up. I've completed three paintings since unpacking in October and looking forward to meeting new people, other artists, and students eager to learn.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at examples of the teacher's work and style. Do you like it? What do you like about it? Is that the direction you want to go?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How much can I afford to spend and for how long? What is my learning style? Do I need to take copious notes for future study, am I ok in a classroom setting, or do I need hands on one-on-one instruction? Does my schedule allow me to show up consistently and on time?
