About
I’ve been painting for over 50 years. In that time I’ve taught many people to paint and draw - even people who thought they had no talent. I have a real passion to teach people to create. If you want to learn, I can teach you. You can see some of my work at “MarkOehlert.com.”
The best part of creating art, whether it's a painting or drawing, is the sheer delight I experience when creating art. Time and worries just seem to melt away as I get caught up in the joy of creating. The process of learning something new is also an enjoyable part of the process. With art, you're always learning something new.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with an assessment to determine where you are, how much you know. Then I formulate a course that is specifically designed for you, the individual student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA in Advertising Design and I have worked as a professional illustrator and fine artist for more than 40 years. I have won various awards including the "Arts for the Parks Top 100" national exhibition. My work has appeared in many galleries around the nation - Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and Texas. I am among the top western artists in the country to have work exhibited at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, Night of Artists.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I don't have a standard pricing system. My goal is to help you become a better artist. We can work together on the price.
How did you get started teaching?
Many years ago, I had some friends who wanted to have their son take art lessons from me. He is now a very talented painter. Word spread and others asked me to do the same for them or their children. I've been teaching ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked withe complete beginners who just wanted to learn to draw simple cartoons, all the way to fine art painters who wanted to make a living creating art. If you have the desire to cerate art, I can help you fulfill that desire.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Whether you become my student or work with another teacher, I would offer this advice: Make sure the person from which you are learning has an authentic passion for creating art the ability to help you become the artist you want to be.
